Just north of Eugene on Highway 99 is Junction City, Oregon, home to over 5800 residents.  Junction City’s roots go back to the 1870’s when railroad magnate Ben Holladay planned on the city being where the rail line on the east side of the Willamette Valley would meet the line on the west side. This didn’t happen as planned.  But later Junction City would be where the two main branches of U.S. Route 99 would join. Junction City was incorporated in 1872.

Shopping & Dining

Junction City benefits from a number of convenient stores that cover every basic need.  The main grocer is Safeway at the north end of the city. There’s also a Goodwill retail store and donation center. For antiques, crafts, and collectibles, The Courtyard on 6th is a great place to shop. Junction City is also home to a large auto dealer, Guarantee Chevrolet, which attracts business from all over the Willamette Valley.

Diners in Junction City also have a nice range of options for great food.  Junkyard Extreme Burgers and Brats is the place to go for the best burgers and a fun atmosphere and was featured on the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives” TV show. Abby's Legendary Pizza is the main pizza restaurant in Junction City.  Other great places to eat include Tin Sing Restaurant, Jersey’s Bar, Stockman’s Café, and Bugsy’s.

Living

Junction City is home to around 5300 residents, comprising about 2100 households.  The median family income was $43,875 as of the 2010 Census. There is a large farming community that is made up of a number of family owned farms, including Lochmead Farms, which is one of the largest privately owned dairy farms in the Pacific Northwest.

There are also a couple of annual events held in Junction City that attracts many visitors.  The Scandinavian Festival last four days in August and celebrates the cultures of Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland. The Daffodil Festival is also a major event held annually.

Education

The students of Junction City are served by the Junction City School District. There are four schools in the district – Junction City High School, Oaklea Middle School, Laurel Elementary, and Territorial Elementary.
